*** NEWLY RENOVATED OPERA MUSEUM***

On this exciting three and half hour itinerary, a local expert will show you around the neighborhood of the Duomo of Florence.

It is certainly one of the most beautiful Cathedrals in the world.  Santa Maria del Fiore (official name of the cathedral) with its stunning façade, Giotto’s Campanile (bell tower) and  Brunelleschi’s Cupola is what makes Florence so recognizable around the world. It is also the symbol of the Religious history of the city. We have designed this tour to include the Baptistery and the newly renovated Opera Museum, in order to follow the theme of the religious life of Florentines starting from the V century onwards.

You will discover the transformation of this religious site from the first Gothic Church to the present Renaissance gem.

The second stop is the Baptistery. The Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of the monuments that constitute the civic identity of Florence, the real heart of the Florentine Republic. Its three doors are each unique as on them is written the history of humanity and its redemption. They are like a giant Bible that you can start reading by looking at the pictures from the central door, with the Old Testament, to continue on the south with the stories of the Baptist and finally on the north, illustrating the stories of Christ. Completely covered in gold, it was named Paradise Door by Michelangelo Buonarroti . Damaged during the flood in Florence, the original panels, after being restored have been moved in the nearby Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. This is museum is the third stop. After two years of renovation, the Museo dell’Opera has finally reopened to the public.  It is a real gem which houses the world’s largest collection of medieval sculptures and Renaissance Florence: 750 works including statues and reliefs in marble, bronze, and silver and masterpieces of the greatest artists of the time like Michelangelo, Donatello, Arnolfo di Cambio, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia and Andrea Verrocchio. Over 200 works are now visible for the first time to the public after restoration, among them, some really touching art pieces like the Maddalena by Donatello and the Paradise Door of Lorenzo Ghiberti. On this tour, you travel into the past and witness artworks that will inevitably touch your heart, an experience which only our local expert will make special and unforgettable for you. .
