Description

This tour is a limited edition designed for the visitors who will come to Rome for the Jubilee of Divine Mercy 2016. At Senso Travel we want to celebrate this holy event with a special tour to accompany you in this intimate, unrepeatable experience. We will guide you to the 3 of the main Roman Basilicas to visit 3 of the 4 holy doors which Pope Francis opened for this jubilee. A private car will take you from one Basilica to another as they are in different sides of the city and this will contribute to make our tour smooth and exclusive, as we will be far from the crowded undergrounds and buses, to make the best of our time learning instead of travelling around.

The first stop is St. Paul Outside the walls (San Pietro fuori le mura), the second largest Basilica after Saint Peter in the Vatican.  Its Holy Door was opened on December 13th 2015.  Here you will find important relics the remains of St. Paul the Apostle which are buried in this Basilica. St. Paul’s tomb is a site of uninterrupted pilgrimages since the 1st century.

We will then move to the Archbasilica of St John Lateran (San Giovanni in Laterano). Wrongly believed to be Saint Peter in Vatican, St. John in Lateran is instead the Cathedral of Rome and of the Christian World. It is the first of the four papal basilicas, the oldest and most important church in the West. Here we will visit the Holy Stairs, the Scala Sancta that Jesus walked during his Passion, sanctifying it forever. They were transferred from the Palace of Pontio Pilato in Gerusalem to Rome by the Pope.

We will finish with the Basilica of St Mary Major (Santa Maria Maggiore). Founded in the 4th century, this Basilica is a true artistic jewel of inestimable value. It is the Marian temple par excellence and artistic cradle of civilization. The greatest Artist of the Italian Baroque, Bernini is buried here and we will have the chance to visit his tomb.  Among the relics you will be showed, In the Crypt of the Nativity, the Crib of the baby Jesus.

If time allows, we can have a quick visit to a minor but beautiful Basilica next to Saint Mary Major,  the Church of Santa Prassede, decorated with the authentic first century golden mosaics and where the pillar upon which Jesus was flogged and tortured before his crucifixion in Jerusalem is held.
